About
Us
Mexican
Folkloric Dance Society of New York, Inc. is a non-profit
organization, created with the purpose of diffusing Mexican culture and
the diverse artistic forms of Mexican folkloric dance. From its inception
to the present time, our institution has been developing not only cultural
but also social and educational programs for the community at large. Some
of our activities have included dance workshops and other promotions
targeted to reach the underprivileged young adult community. Our goal is
to encourage the development of their human skills and capacities in order
to foster better self-esteem, racial pride and the desire to excel. These
efforts have benefited more than a thousand people in the Bronx, at not
cost to the community.
Likewise,
we have sponsored not only diverse artistic presentations, but also “The
First Mexican Folkloric Dance Competition of the Northeast Region in
2004”, which took place in New York. Last year’s competition saw the
participation of nine groups and more than a hundred young dancers as part
of ballets (dance troupes) from New York, Illinois, Chicago, California,
Michigan, Baja California (Mexico) and Princeton University.
